Who Are We And Why We Exist

Who We Are

Rights and Roots was born from a simple conviction: the best way to protect Nature is to stand with those who have been protecting it all along.

Our Vision

We envision a world where:

Nature is no longer treated as a resource, but as a living community to which we belong
Systems are designed to regenerate life rather than extract from it and profit never comes at the expense of human, Indigenous or Nature´s rights
Success is measured by the wellbeing of people and planet, not by extraction, growth and accumulation

Those most affected by environmental injustice have the power, resources, representation, and right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent to shape the decisions that affect their territories and futures.

What Do We Do

We co-design projects and support comunities to:

Defend rights and territories

Through legal support, capacity strengthening, territorial monitoring, and strategic partnerships, we support communities in defending Indigenous territories, ecosystems, and the Rights of Nature.

Power community-led climate solutions

We support community-led, non-extractive ways of living that sustain ecosystems while reinforcing sovereignty and dignity.

Amplify Frontline Voices

Through advocacy, campaigning and strategic communications, we help bring environmental injustices into the public eye and strengthen community efforts to influence decisions affecting their territories.
We believe that protecting nature begins with protecting the people who defend it.
Our work is grounded in a rights-based approach.
This means we do not treat ecosystems as resources or carbon assets, but as living entities inseparable from the communities who steward them.

Why It Matters

%
of Earth’s biodiversity in Indigenous territories
M t
CO2e sequestered in Indigenous territories yearly
x
Less deforestation in titled Indigenous Lands
%
of climate finance reaches Indigenous communities

Yet, these solutions remain critically underfunded.

This is climate action through rights — not offsets.

Help Protect What Protects Us

Indigenous territorial protection is one of the most effective climate mitigation and adaptation strategies globally and one of the most underfunded. We envision a world where peoples and Nature´s rights are safeguarded, respected and central to climate solutions
